If you have time on Monday during recess twice a month and are excited about the possibility of representing your classmates on the Student Council, then you should consider becoming a classroom representative or student council officer. Elections for officers are held in May and at the start of the school year for classroom representatives . Students serve from August to June. Contact Mr. Throm for more information.

Requirements:

 

  1. Must have enough free time to attend Monday meetings twice a month during lunch and to help out  with special events.
  2. Candidates for student council officer positions must prepare a 30-90 second speech to convince your  classmates that  you will be the best representative for your class.
  3. Must meet STM grade, conduct, and eligibilty rules.
  4. Must be really excited about helping out your school and serving your fellow students.

Officer requirements:

  • The President must be an 8th grader.
  • The Vice-President must be a 7th grader.
  • The Secretary and Treasurer may be a 7th or 8th grader.

 

Important dates and guidelines for the election

  • The student council officer candidate application must be turned in to the Student Council Advisor (Mr. Throm) by April 14.
  • You must have three teacher recommendations.  At least two recommendations must be from a core teacher.  The third recommendation may be from a core teacher, a specials teacher, or an administrator.  A copy of your third quarter report card must be attached to the application.
  • Campaigning will start as soon as you have turned in your application to the student council advisor.  Each candidate may hang up to three posters.  The posters may be no larger that 18” x 24”.  Candidates may pass out promotional items to students (but no food items).
  • A copy of each candidate’s campaign speech must be handed in to the student council advisor by May 19, to be reviewed and approved.
  • Campaign speeches will be given on May 26.  Speeches must be no longer than 3 minutes.
  • Voting will occur following the campaign speeches.  All present 3rd – 7th graders will vote.
  • All posters must be taken down on May 27.
  • Winners announced following the election.  Induction ceremony at the start of the following school year.
