The fourth grades this year continue to work on developing recorder skills. They will be preparing the song "DE Colores"to play when we attended the NC Symphony School Concert on May 5, 2011. In addition to preparing for the event by studying the composers and their music, we are also studying songs and folk tales of North Carolina. This coordinates with the Fourth Grade study of our state. We will incorporate singing, instrument playing and acting in our studies.
We are also using the Smart Board in our classroom to enhance our studies of musical composition. the program final NotePad is a free resource over the internet that allows us to notate our own music to play on the recorder.
In addition to preparing for the Symphony, the fourth grade prepared and presented a Christmas program to the school. The program included playing and singing traditional Christmas carols and songs and readings from the scriptures. The students used recorders, Orff instruments and percussion instruments in presenting the songs. We also lead the school in singing some traditional music as well as singing as a choir other music of the Chrismas season. We included music from other cultures in our program.
