COACHES VS TEACHERS BB GAME
Due to scheduling and staffing conflicts, the Booster club regretfully has to cancel the 5:30 dinner (pizza and subs) for this Friday (2/3) night. We will still have warm-ups at 6:30 and tip-off at 7pm for the Faculty/Staff vs Coaches Basketball game.

STM GARDEN HAPPENINGS
STM Garden Happenings 1/31/2012 - What a delight to see things (slowly) change in our garden. Believing that food will come from such beginnings is a practice in faith. Since my last note, we have collected at least 5lbs of compost material, (thank you Lisa Pope and Jenny Sullivan). It is a success! The soil in three boxes has been turned and is ready for warmer weather. Our “little green house” for strawberries is up and ready. 4th grade will be planting those this week…fun! Up coming: onions and peas!

STM-NEWS AND OBSERVER ARTICLE
Please spread the word that St. Thomas More School is featured on page 8D in the Monday, January 30th issue of the News and Observer ("Thumbs Up" section). The article was submitted (with picture) in early October and we were told that it would take 11-12 weeks before it would be printed. What incredible timing -- we are thrilled it's running during Catholic Schools Week! To view the electronic copy click here.
In addition to reading about STM please enjoy this commentary found in the Wall Street Journal from 9/30/2011. What an excellent affirmation to Catholic Schools. Cathy Elmore

2011 RECYCLING RESULTS
Congratulations to all who have helped STM parish and school in our sustained efforts to reduce our waste! Our recycling in 2011 was just terrific! The paper, bottles and cans recycling totals for 2011 are up 40% from 2010, up 100% from 2009. We sent 4 tons of beverage containers, 23 tons of paper, and 2 ¾ tons of cardboard (that’s 29 ¾ tons!) to be used to make products rather than to the landfill. Special congratulations to students, teachers, and staff in the school! To Freshway who had to deliver those tons to the right bins! And to Doug Mendenhall from the Environmental Stewardship Ministry who counted and recorded results every week. Faithful stewards!
