CURRICULUM St. Thomas More Catholic School follows the curriculum outlined by the Diocese of Raleigh and is accredited through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools also known as
IOWA TEST AND GRADE EQUIVALENT RESULTS The Diocese of Raleigh uses the Iowa Test of Basic Skills to provide parents a better understanding of their child’s progress from year to year. Individual results will be mailed directly to each student's parent(s) either in November or December. In addition to individual student results, the school receives results for the entire class. These results aid the teacher in recognizing the strengths and weaknesses for each child and adjusts the curriculum accordingly to these needs. These tests are not used as a promotion tool, as the EOGs are used in the public system, but as a way to better understand each child as an individual. Click here for the 2010 test results - PDF version The Grade Equivalent is a decimal number that describes performance in terms of grade level and months. For example, if a sixth-grade student obtains a GE of 8.4 on the Vocabulary test, his score is like the one a typical student finishing the fourth month of eighth grade would likely get on the Vocabulary test. The GE of a given raw score on any test indicates the grade level at which the typical student makes this raw score. The digits to the left of the decimal point represent the grade and those to the right represent the month within that grade.
2010-11 DIOCESAN WRITING ASSESSMENT The results of the Writing Assessments can be found by clicking on the images below. The students were given a prompt on the day of the test and they had a limited amount of time to develop their response. The 7th grade as a group scored higher than other schools in our Diocese. The highest possible score is 4. STM average score - 3.1 Diocesan average score - 2.9 In many areas the 4th grade also scored higher than other schools in our Diocese.
