STM Traffic Study

“5 minutes early in the morning can save you 15 minutes or more on exiting time”

A traffic study completed by the STM Building and Grounds Committee last December, concluded that most of the morning drop off traffic takes place between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. That is 140 to 150 cars in a 15 minute period. The study also determined how much time it would take to get a determined number of cars through the traffic light at different rates per cycle. The conclusion is that we have many more cars coming in than we can get out in that 15 minute window. As much as we are working with the Town to improve this situation, it remains a reality that 15-501 being a main thoroughfare with an excess of 20,000 cars per day traffic volume, will always get preference over Carmichael St.. The recommendation from this study is that, while we work on improving our situation under the new building project, it may make sense to consider arriving to STM 5 minutes earlier than usual and spread the load over a longer period of time.
