Our Fifth Graders will be studying songs from Americas history and will present an integrated curriculum program on American songs during the fall semester. This will coordinate with the 5th grade homerooms unit of study on the US. We will use singing, movement and instrument playing in preparing for our 2011 program. The proggram was presented on January 27, 2011
In addition to coordinating with the American history studies, we are preparing a unit on African American history, to include songs and studies about the Undergroud Railway and the Freedom Quilt. This will integrate with the study of slavery in the classroom. We hope to prepare this to present during music class to the 5th grade prayer partners.
Chorus is an important part of our studies. We learn good singing technique, proper singing posture, good warm up techniques and good tone production. We are studying songs with instrument accompainments and in more than one vocal part. Students are also leaning to sing in harmony and with descants which encourages independent singing.
