The fourth grades this year continue to work on developing recorder skills. They will be preparing the song John Henry to play when we attended the NC Symphony School Concert on Feb 2, 2010. In addition to preparing for the event by studying the composers and their music, we are also studying songs and folk tales of North Carolina. This coordinates with the Fourth Grade study of our state. We will incorporate singing, instrument playing and acting in our studies.
The NC Symphony this year will include the study of the basic elements of music. These include melody, tempo, dynamics, rhythm, texture and form. We will be studying different composers and their compositions in relation to these basic elements of music. We will hear the music of these composers when we attend the NC Symphony Concert in Feb.
The Fourth grade will also be using the computer lab this year to become familiar with using a computer music program to compose a recorder song. They will then prepare to play their song for their classmates. The composition program will allow them to learn how to create their own recorder songs on the computer.. This will be done in the science lab and parents are invited to help us as we learn how to use a music composition program. We will be working on this project the 4th Tuesday of each month during their music time beginning in October.
