Grade 1
Music - Grade 1

Our First Graders are learning songs from our American Heritage as well as songs about other cultures, such as the Rain Forest.  As part of our studies, we will continue learning the basic elements of music.  These include melody, rhythm, dynamics, tempo and form.  In addition we will use instruments and body movement as part of our songs to encourage musical improvisation.  The students wil continue to work on using their singing voices expressively.

In addition to movement, singing and playing instruments, the first graders will be preparing a Rain Forest program to be presented to their parents and the lower school on March 11, 2011.  The musical is based on a program called "Rumpus in the Rainforest" by Ron Fink and John Heath with some original Orff songs developed in our music class. This program is an example of integrated learning between the classroom and the music class.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer as parent helpers in music class and visit the class at any time.
