Projects

One of the favorite things that we do in 3B are oral book reports which are assigned just about every month. For the month of October, the children read a mystery and make a diorama to show one of the important scenes in the story. Children love to combine their book reports with their artistic skills.

And then, of course, in February we do our famous Living Wax Museum. Each child reads a biography and then dresses up as that person and tells about his life and contributions to society to our audience of Second Graders. Imagine meeting Benjamin Franklin, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Willie Mays all in one hour!

Every month, three different children are chosen to be Student of the Month. They bring in a write-up of themselves and a photo. These are posted on a special bulletin board for all to enjoy for the entire month! What a great way to learn about each other!

Christmas is a very special time of year, especially in 3B, because it is traditional for the students of this class to learn a 20-stanza poem entitled “The Story of Christmas.” The rhyming verse and accompanying hand motions make this a very special project. Every year, the students of 3B have the opportunity to recite this poem for the entire school community on the altar steps to begin the school Christmas liturgy. How heart-warming to hear the former students of 3B chiming in as the poem is recited. This is the children’s holiday gift to all but especially to Ms. Misa!
